Legal and Compliance, Contracts Lawyer, Job Gauteng


As Legal & Compliance Manager, your primary role is to manage legal activities across the business. This will entail:

Legal Contracting

  • Managing the structuring, negotiation, contracting, and execution of legal contracts, with a focus on identifying risks and liabilities, in close partnership with the CEO and external legal counsels. Examples of contracts include corporate finance transactions, project finance transactions, grant agreements, Public-Private-Partnership agreements with African governments.


  • Managing legal compliance across the business, in accordance with Compliance Matrix and Compliance Standard Operating Procedure.


  • Reporting to funders and regulators based on established reporting cycles and procedures.


Legal degree (New York or UK jurisdiction preferred but all jurisdictions welcomed) 4+ years’ work experience in a leading law firm focused on energy/transactions/project finance/corporate finance or similar
Located in Johannesburg
Experience with European Union grant contracts is a plus
Fluency in Portuguese or French is a plus
Excited about the entrepreneurial environment: growing company, fast-paced, exciting work, high stress
Highly organized and strong attention to detail is essential.
Resourceful, hardworking and above all honest with high integrity.
Experience working internationally in start-up environments.
A passion for delivering energy services and a desire to learn the various aspects of the business.
Enthusiasm towards working in the field of renewable energy.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Flexible and eager to lend a hand wherever needed, even if a specific task may fall outside the core job description.
