Introduction:
We are seeking a detail-oriented, strategic Compliance Manager to oversee and ensure our company’s adherence to regulatory requirements, internal policies, and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in managing risk, fostering a culture of compliance, and promoting operational excellence across all business functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance
- Monitor and interpret South African laws and regulations applicable to the company (e.g., POPIA, Companies Act, Labour Law, B-BBEE codes, FICA, FAIS, environmental or industry-specific requirements).
- Ensure compliance policies are up to date and aligned with current legislation.
- Serve as the point of contact for relevant regulatory bodies and ensure timely submissions and responses to inquiries or audits.
Policy Development & Implementation
- Develop, update, and implement internal compliance policies and procedures.
- Train and educate staff on regulatory obligations and internal policy requirements.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments to identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Risk Management & Reporting
- Identify and assess areas of compliance risk across the organisation.
- Maintain a risk register and develop mitigation strategies in collaboration with business units.
- Provide senior leadership with regular reports on compliance status, incidents, and emerging risks.
Ethics, Governance & Internal Controls
- Promote a culture of ethics and integrity throughout the organisation.
- Investigate compliance breaches and work with leadership on disciplinary or remedial action when necessary.
- Coordinate with legal, HR, and finance teams to ensure integrated compliance strategies.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, or related field (a postgraduate qualification is advantageous).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a compliance, legal or regulatory role.
- Strong knowledge of relevant South African legislation and compliance frameworks.
- Experience with corporate governance, policy development, and employee training.
